If your baby cries in the carrier
A cry does not tell you whether the baby is uncomfortable or protesting. Check the fit and the airway first. This is not medical advice.
- Use the T.I.C.K.S. checks. The baby’s face stays in view, the chin stays off the chest, and the back is supported.
- NCT says that if a carry feels loose or unbalanced, try again or get support. A sling library or a consultant can watch a fit. The UK and Ireland map is on the safety page.
- Feed and change the baby first, then try a short carry. If the baby was premature or had a low birth weight, talk to a health professional before you carry. NCT and RoSPA both say that.
- If you are worried about pain, reflux, or a baby who hates every container, talk to your midwife, health visitor, or GP. This site cannot tell those apart.
