Buying second-hand and spotting fakes
NCT says to check a second-hand sling for wear, and not to use it if you are unsure. If the instructions are missing, ask the manufacturer. Buy from the brand or an authorised seller rather than an unknown marketplace listing.
- A newborn carrier bought second-hand uses the same NCT checks. Look for wear, and get the manual from the maker if it is missing.
- Buy from the brand or a seller the brand names. This site has not checked which Amazon sellers are authorised.
- Check stitching, buckles, rings, and labels. If anything looks wrong, do not use it.
- Follow the maker’s weight and age limit, not a listing title.
- This catalogue has not published a weight that proves a carrier is genuine. Do not treat a gram figure from a forum as a check.
Recalls are not checked on this site yet. A second-hand carrier can still be under a recall you would need to look up yourself.
